About The Position

Assist store management with operations by performing clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, leading by example, and supporting the department manager with general operations as directed. Provide fast, friendly customer service, respond professionally to questions and complaints, and perform grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker duties while helping assigned employees complete their tasks. The role may involve varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires following company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Perform basic arithmetic and compute weights and measures.

Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Perform duties described in the applicable grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker job description.
Have previous experience in the designated department (grocery or freight), or equivalent, sufficient to understand overall company practices.
Use cleaning chemicals properly according to manufacturer guidelines and instructions.
Handle food products according to state and county laws and WinCo standards.
Frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 pounds.
Stand for long periods; walk and move rapidly; and bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
Perform duties with mental alertness around potential hazards involving procedures, machines, equipment, and work aides.
Understand state and federal regulations when certification is needed.
Meet minimum age requirements: 18 in Montana and Oregon, and 21 in all other states.
Obtain Food Handlers Certification when required by state law.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while promoting a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service environment.
Perform clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department; duties may include cashiering and freight stocking.
Handle customer complaints and requests; approve checks, sell gift certificates, issue refunds, receive returned check payments, and answer customer questions as applicable.
Monitor activity in the assigned area, including customer traffic and checkout-lane coverage.
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of work areas, storage areas, equipment, and retail displays, and keep the area clear of excess carts, baskets, and garbage.
Monitor employee arrivals, breaks, lunches, and departures in the area of responsibility.
Communicate regularly with the immediate supervisor and provide assistance as needed or directed.
Provide direction and leadership to clerks, demonstrate work tasks, and answer employee questions.
As applicable, monitor cashier money-handling procedures and assist with scan-system issues such as missing UPC codes and pricing errors.
Stock and rotate merchandise, fill department racks, shelves, displays, and coolers, handle cleaning materials and department equipment, pull cardboard, and face shelves and aisles as needed.
Maintain awareness of customer and employee safety.
Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.
