About The Position

Assist store management with operations by performing clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, leading by example, and supporting the department manager with general operations as directed. Provide fast, friendly customer service and respond professionally to customer questions and complaints. In addition to grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker duties, help assigned employees perform their tasks, including coordinating breaks and lunches. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Communicate clearly and professionally, with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, and establish and maintain good rapport with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, customers, and others.
Provide leadership and maintain composure when professionally addressing difficult or angry customers, vendors, and coworkers.
Understand company practices, policies, and procedures well enough to assess and respond appropriately to customer activity.
Show initiative and self-direction while multitasking across a variety of duties.
Conduct visual inspections and read reports, computer printouts, register screens, and computer screens.
Perform basic arithmetic and compute weights and measures.
Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately, with honesty and integrity.
Meet the minimum age requirement: 18 in Montana and Oregon; 21 in all other states.
Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Perform the duties described in the applicable grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker job description.
Understand company practices through previous experience in the designated department or equivalent.
Use cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and instructions.
Handle food products according to state and county laws and WinCo standards.
Reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 pounds frequently.
Stand for long periods; walk and move rapidly; and bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
Perform duties with mental alertness around potential hazards involving procedures, machines, equipment, and work aids.
Understand state and federal regulations when certification is needed.
Hold a Food Handler's Certification where required by state law.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while encouraging a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service environment.
Perform clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department.
Handle customer-service matters that may include complaints and requests, approving checks, selling gift certificates, issuing refunds, receiving returned-check payments, and answering customer questions.
Monitor activity in the assigned area, including customer traffic and checkout-lane coverage.
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of work, storage, and display areas; clean by mopping, sweeping, and removing garbage as needed.
Keep the assigned department or area clear of excess carts, baskets, garbage, and other items.
Monitor employee arrivals, breaks, lunches, and departures, and communicate regularly with the immediate supervisor.
Assist the immediate supervisor as needed or directed.
Provide direction and leadership to clerks, demonstrate tasks, and answer employee questions.
May monitor cashier money-handling procedures and assist with scan-system issues such as missing UPC codes and pricing errors.
May stock department shelves, racks, displays, and coolers; use cleaning materials and department equipment; pull cardboard; face aisles; and perform cashiering duties.
Maintain awareness of customer and employee safety.
Stock and rotate merchandise throughout the store as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
