About The Position

Lead Bus Drivers must be able to competently fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of a bus driver. In addition, Lead Bus Drivers must provide positive and effective mentoring with other bus drivers. They are also expected to develop and present courses of instruction in all phases of transportation operations. Finally, assist the Transportation Supervisor operational or personnel matters as needed and in accordance with organizational policy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess and maintain an excellent motor vehicle record
  • Must possess a valid Texas CDL- B with P & S endorsements and outstanding driving record
  • Must possess a valid Texas School Bus Driving Safety certificate
  • Must have an up to date medical physical
  • Knowledge of highway and school bus regulations
  • Knowledge of how to deal with the various needs of children
  • Knowledge of scheduling and record keeping system
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Time management skills
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and mentoring for bus crews by performing all the duties of a regular driver.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective bus transportation procedures to other bus drivers to ensure compliance with law, district policy, and department goals.
  • Develop, organize, and conduct training classes in all phases of transportation operations as needed or assigned.
  • Maintain school vehicles in good operating condition through preventive maintenance procedures and pre- and post-trip bus inspection and demonstrate these skills to other bud drivers.
  • Demonstrate prescribed and proper student management techniques to maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the school vehicle.
  • Assist the Transportation Supervisor in investigating work place injuries and vehicle accidents, as needed.
  • Attend all in-service training classes and professional development as required by the district and/or the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Comply with Drug and Alcohol Testing as required by Board Policy and Federal Law.
  • Embody and demonstrate the organization’s mission, vision, and values toward all TLPS stakeholders.
