About The Position

The Bus Driver transports participants to and from specified destinations and ensures their safety while on the bus and throughout each trip. The position inspects and reports vehicle conditions before and after trips, takes basic safety precautions, and assists with overseeing participants and their belongings.

The driver operates and maintains the cleanliness of the bus, communicates with the trip coordinator and passengers, and helps ensure campers and staff follow applicable rules and procedures.

Requirements

• Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License.
• Must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices.
• Knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of cleaning procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Drive the bus safely, obey road laws, communicate with the trip coordinator, and explain safety requirements to passengers.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking for damage and the proper operation of gauges, fuel and hydraulic lines, pumps, lights, sounds, tire pressure, and airways; report issues or needs.
• Keep the vehicle clean by checking seats, racks, and floors for belongings, sweeping, removing trash, and replacing or requesting cleaning supplies.
• Communicate policies and procedures to campers and staff and document camper infractions.
• Assist with overseeing participants and their belongings.
• Perform other similar duties as required.
