Layout Designer - Drawing Coordination
About The Position
The Layout Designer works with customers, engineering, and order management teams to configure and visualize customer proposals using 2D renderings. The role focuses on the complete configuration of Pierce pumper products and creates initial 2D layouts of fire apparatus based on customer specifications. The designer supports the layout drawing from initial bid and drawing creation through manufacturing, making necessary revisions along the way. They learn the full range of pumper products while working with engineering and order management teams on combinations of more than 300,000 options. The designer's name appears on approval drawings signed by customers to accept the design and order content.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent, with two years of experience in drafting or design.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Self-starter and problem solver.
- Ability to communicate effectively as part of a multifunctional team.
- Detail oriented and customer focused.

- Previous experience in drafting or design.
- Experience with sales drawings and custom products.
- Prioritization and time management skills when handling multiple demands on a fixed timeline.

Responsibilities
- Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems and existing content to create 2D and 3D layouts in new configurations based on Pulse order specifications.
- Work with engineering and order management teams to resolve specification conflicts and design layouts suited to the customer's apparatus mission profile.
- Self-check work for accuracy and retain ownership of layout drawings through multiple stage-gates.
- Support layout drawings from initial bid and drawing creation through manufacturing, including necessary revisions.
