About The Position

Assist the Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and the first step in learning a skill. The role involves supporting heavy civil construction work through manual and routine machine tasks, maintaining clean work areas and equipment, and following safety procedures. Work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to changing weather conditions. The position requires strenuous physical activity and manual dexterity.

Requirements

Less than a high school diploma.
Ability to perform strenuous heavy physical activity.
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Responsibilities

Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
Perform routine non-machine tasks, including removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
Perform machine tasks such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures.
Report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge and skills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
