About The Position

Assist the Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and the first step in learning a construction skill. The work includes supporting heavy civil construction activities and performing routine manual and machine-assisted tasks. The position reports to the Foreman.

Requirements

• Less than a high school diploma.
• Three or more years of related construction experience preferred.
• Comply with company safety policies, practices, and procedures; knowledge of and adherence to the company safety manual are required.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• For selected candidates: pass a drug screen; field-position candidates must pass a medical exam.
• Some positions require completion of a background check.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to reach and handle items and work with the fingers, and ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy physical activity.

Responsibilities

• Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
• Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine non-machine tasks, such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
• Perform machine-related tasks such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership by example and by sharing knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
