About The Position

The Laborer assists the Foreman and skilled craft workers with assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and a first step toward learning a construction skill. The role involves general labor on heavy civil construction work, including work at and around the Jacksonville airport. The employee must successfully complete and pass a background check for security clearance, and must have a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Requirements

A valid driver's license.
A clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Must successfully complete and pass a background check for security clearance.
Less than a high school diploma.
Ability to perform strenuous physical work and sufficient manual dexterity to handle items and work with fingers.

Responsibilities

Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
Perform routine non-machine tasks, such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
Perform machine-related tasks, such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provide leadership by example and share knowledge and skills.
Drive as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
