About The Position

Performs various tasks at a landfill, including containing loose refuse to prevent it from scattering, maintaining the site, and directing traffic. The role includes collecting windblown paper manually or using a mobile vacuum pulled by a tractor, directing truck traffic during periods of heavy activity, moving construction materials, and separating recyclable or reusable materials from trash at landfill transfer stations. This is an on-site, safety-sensitive position requiring strict compliance with safety rules and protocols. Candidates may be subject to drug and alcohol testing under applicable regulations and company policies.

Requirements

• Hold licenses as required by applicable local, state, federal, environmental, and health and safety regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Manually collect windblown paper along the landfill’s fenced border and on adjacent exterior land, placing it in a trash bag.
• Use a mobile vacuum to collect loose paper and refuse along the landfill perimeter, driving and operating the tractor and vacuum hose as needed.
• Direct truck traffic at the landfill entrance during periods of heavy traffic, communicating with drivers verbally or using hand signals.
• Lift construction materials, including lumber and bags of concrete mix, for site-maintenance projects.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws.
• Manually separate metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station.
• Comply strictly with safety rules and protocols.
