Laborer Landfill
About The Position
Performs various tasks at a landfill, including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic. The position involves manually collecting windblown paper along landfill boundaries, using a mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse, directing truck traffic during busy summer periods, lifting materials for site-maintenance projects, using hand tools, and separating recyclable or reusable materials from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with a transfer station. The role is designated safety-sensitive and requires strict compliance with safety rules and protocols. Drug and alcohol testing may be required in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
Requirements
- Hold licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental, and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Manually pick up windblown paper along the landfill's fenced perimeter and adjacent exterior land, placing it in a large trash bag.
- Operate a tractor and mobile vacuum along the landfill boundary, using the vacuum hose to collect loose paper and refuse from the fence and ground.
- Direct the flow of trucks at the landfill entrance during periods of heavy summer traffic, communicating verbally or by hand signals.
- Lift construction materials for site-maintenance projects, including lumber and bags of concrete mix.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws.
- Manually separate metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with transfer stations.
