About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Lab Demonstrator in HLSC 2P08 Fall D2-1 at Brock University. The position is part of the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) and falls under Human Physiology: Cellular Processes/Metabolic Compensation. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the employee's qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $22.07 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $34.73 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). Additional duties required as part of a Teaching Assistant's role will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The nominal workload for this position is 10 hours per week, consisting of 6 hours of demonstrating and 4 hours of marking and lab preparation. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. The incumbent, under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor, is expected to be familiar with laboratory procedures, introduce the lab, demonstrate techniques, teach and assist students during the lab, maintain safe lab conditions, prepare and clean up the lab, mark lab reports, and attend meetings as needed. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in health sciences or a related discipline is required.
  • Brock undergraduate applicants must be in their fourth year (Honours) and have successfully completed this course.
  • Completion of physiology, molecular biology, and cell biology courses at the undergraduate level or higher is required.
  • Previous experience in a physiology or similar laboratory is required.
  • Workplace Safety and Biosafety training is required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and foster a supportive learning atmosphere in the wet laboratories.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Experience or training with online synchronous and asynchronous course support.
  • Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace), computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and electronic audience response systems.
  • Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online.
