About The Position
This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Lab Demonstrator in GEOSPATIAL ANALYTICS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH (HLSC 3Q90) for the Fall D2 term. The position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation is based on qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $22.07 per hour and a graduate rate of $34.73 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). The nominal workload is 10 hours per week, including demonstrating, marking, and lab preparation. Duties are in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement and include introducing labs, demonstrating techniques, assisting students, maintaining safety, preparing and cleaning labs, marking reports, and attending meetings under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or related discipline is required.
- For Brock undergraduate applicants, the incumbent must be in fourth year (honors) and have completed this course successfully.
- Sound knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students and provide constructive feedback.
- Be punctual in attending classes.
- Be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
- Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in teaching in a geospatial lab is an asset.
- Experience or training with synchronous and asynchronous course support.
- Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace), computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and electronic audience response systems.
Responsibilities
- Be familiar with laboratory procedures.
- Present an introduction to the lab.
- Demonstrate laboratory techniques.
- Teach and assist students during the lab.
- Maintain safe lab conditions.
- Be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup.
- Mark lab reports.
- Attend meetings as needed.
