The Kettle Worker rings bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. As the first point of public contact for the fundraising campaign, the worker is expected to provide courteous, friendly, professional service. Duties include greeting donors, collecting monetary donations, answering public questions or directing people to an appropriate Salvation Army representative, and following instructions while working independently. The worker must keep the kettle attended except during authorized breaks at a secure location, wear and return Salvation Army identification, and complete and submit a daily time card. This is a seasonal position with various hours. Work takes place outdoors and may involve extended periods standing or sitting, frequent changes between standing and walking, weather-related discomfort, and exposure to noise, dust, and dirt. The role involves frequent interruptions and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, are required. A criminal history information check is required; a conviction does not automatically preclude employment. The Salvation Army will consider reasonable accommodation requests, and qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties with or without accommodation.
