The Kettle Worker rings bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. As the first point of public contact for the fundraising campaign, the worker is expected to provide courteous, friendly, and professional service to the public. Duties include greeting donors, collecting monetary donations, responding to questions or requests for information and directing people to an appropriate Salvation Army representative. The worker follows instructions, works independently with limited supervision, and complies with rules and directions provided by the Kettle Coordinator and The Salvation Army. Kettles must not be left unattended except during authorized breaks at a secure location. Workers wear identification and any special clothing provided by The Salvation Army and complete and place a signed daily time card in the kettle at the end of each workday. Identification must be returned at the end of employment. This is a seasonal position with various hours. Work takes place outdoors at assigned kettle stands and may involve extended periods standing or sitting, frequent changes between standing and walking, and exposure to weather, noise, dust, and dirt. The role involves frequent interruptions and in-person interaction with people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. Regular and punctual attendance is essential, and the schedule may include irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must pass a criminal history information check; a conviction does not automatically preclude employment. The Salvation Army dress code will be provided at employment or orientation. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
