Christmas Kettle Worker

The Salvation Army Southern California•Portland, OR
•Onsite

About The Position

The Kettle Worker rings bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. As the first point of public contact for the fundraising campaign, the worker is expected to provide excellent customer service and greet and interact with the public in a courteous, friendly, and hospitable manner. The role includes collecting monetary donations, responding to public questions or requests for information, and directing people to an appropriate Salvation Army representative. The position is seasonal, with various and irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Workers must follow instructions, work independently with limited supervision, meet attendance requirements, and keep the kettle attended except during authorized breaks at a secure location. The worker must wear Salvation Army-provided identification and any special clothing while at the kettle stand, and return the identification at the end of employment. A daily time card must be completed, signed, and placed in the kettle at the end of the workday. The work is performed outdoors, where workers may experience changing weather, noise, dust, and dirt. It involves standing or sitting in one location for extended periods, frequent changes between standing and walking, frequent interruptions, and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. A criminal history information check is required; a conviction does not automatically preclude employment, and the circumstances will be considered. The Salvation Army has a dress code, which will be shared at employment or orientation. Qualified individuals must be able to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
