The Kettle Worker rings bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts. As the first point of public contact for the fundraising campaign, the worker is expected to provide excellent customer service and interact with the public in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Duties include collecting monetary donations, responding to questions and directing people to appropriate Salvation Army representatives, following instructions, and keeping the kettle attended except during authorized breaks at a secure location. Workers wear identification and any special clothing provided by The Salvation Army, and complete and place a daily time card in the kettle at the end of each workday. The role requires dependable attendance, the ability to work independently with limited supervision, and flexible, irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is outdoors and may involve changing weather, noise, dust, dirt, frequent interruptions, and interactions with people who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. The position requires standing or sitting in one location for extended periods, frequent changes between standing and walking, repetitive bell ringing, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light objects weighing less than 25 pounds. Applicants must apply in person. The selected candidate must pass a criminal history information check; a conviction does not automatically preclude employment.
