About The Position

As part of Capgemini Engineering’s transport network operations team, the Junior Transport Network Engineer provides technical support for transport network environments and helps maintain critical telecommunications infrastructure. The role offers an early-career engineer the opportunity to develop technical expertise while working with experienced engineers and technologies including WDM/DWDM and SDH. The engineer monitors network alarms and events, reviews optical and interface performance parameters, and supports incident diagnosis and recovery by following approved procedures and change controls. The role also involves coordinating with senior engineers, vendors, and field teams, and contributing to clear documentation and continuous improvement in a NOC/SNOC environment.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of transport network technologies, including WDM/DWDM and/or SDH.
  • Some exposure to optical networks and fibre infrastructure through studies or up to one year of hands-on experience.
  • Analytical and structured approach, with the ability to follow technical procedures, interpret alarm data, and contribute methodically to fault diagnosis.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to document technical actions clearly and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Proactive learning attitude and genuine interest in telecommunications operations and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Developing expertise in Huawei and/or Nokia equipment families.
  • Basic technical English.
  • Exposure to NOC/SNOC operational environments.
  • Relevant academic or certification background in networking or telecommunications.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse transport network alarms and events, identify primary faults, and support diagnosis of incidents escalated from first-line teams, particularly involving WDM/DWDM and SDH technologies.
  • Review network performance parameters, including optical transmit/receive power, BER, Q-factor, and interface status, to assess network health and support resolution of degradations.
  • Carry out guided remote diagnostics and recovery actions according to approved procedures and change control processes.
  • Maintain traceability and accurate documentation of actions taken.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, vendors, and field teams, including Huawei and Nokia teams, to coordinate incident resolution, maintenance windows, and post-activity validations.
  • Document findings, update checklists, and support continuous improvement of operational procedures in the NOC/SNOC environment.

Benefits

  • Free access to learning platforms and curated programs, including Harvard Business Review, Coursera, Pluralsight, Udemy, Microsoft, AWS, and Google.
  • Access to an engineering academy offering more than 60,000 hours of training and a digital campus covering GenAI, data, and sustainability.
  • An empowering environment with autonomy, goal setting, and opportunities to take ownership of work and grow.
