Requirements

  • Certified by the United States Army Cadet Command JROTC Headquarters.
  • Meet eligibility requirements established by the sponsor military service in accordance with public law.
  • Retired, veteran, or serving reservist E8 or above, Warrant Officer, or Army Captain through Colonel with no less than 8 years of service.
  • Achieve a passing score on the CBEST within the first year of hire.
  • Achieve a passing score on the PE CSET exams within four years of hire.
  • Ability to obtain ROTC credential via the specified pathway.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential or equivalent out-of-state credential.
  • Completed online employment application with all required attachments, current and previous employment history, and education.
  • Thorough, clear, and concise answers to all application questions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly schedule for the JROTC program, incorporating school activities and HSROTC objectives, with cadet involvement in planning.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including maintaining electronic student records, providing enrollment and student reports, and meeting school administrative requirements.
  • Carry out logistics tasks, prepare requisitions, and maintain federal supply operations according to regulatory guidance.
  • Enroll and retain new students, and prepare cadets for career or college, ensuring high school graduation.
  • Visit feeder schools at least once a year.
  • Teach HSROTC Cadets, achieving curricular requirements and learning standards of the Program of Instruction.
  • Attain and improve proficiency in all subjects taught and continuously improve instruction by staying abreast of new instructional and motivational techniques.
  • Counsel and mentor students on their academic performance and assist interested students in applying for scholarships and completing service academy applications.
  • Participate in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities, and perform duties required of other teachers.
  • Direct and supervise other Army Instructors.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct hands-on training such as color guard, drill teams, and HSROTC social activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments for all activities and enforce Military and School safety guidelines.
  • Participate in recurring instructor conferences and professional development opportunities, and meet continuing education requirements.
  • Prepare the unit for official visits, accreditation, and mandated assist visits.
  • Set an outstanding personal example of professional, social, and personal behavior and appearance.
