Requirements

  • Must be certified by the United States Army Cadet Command Headquarters.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements established by the sponsor military service in accordance with public law.
  • Must be a retired, current serving reservist or army veteran Non-commissioned Officer E6-E9 or warrant officer with no less than 8 years of service.
  • Achieve a passing score on the CBEST and PE CSET exams within 4 years with a waiver to four years with satisfactory progress.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential is required.
  • A copy of your valid California Credential, or equivalent out-of-state credential, MUST be attached to your submitted online application.
  • JROTC qualification memo/letter or currently an Army JROTC instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly schedule for school activities and HSROTC objectives, involving cadets in planning and organizing resources.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including maintaining electronic student records and providing required reports.
  • Carry out logistics tasks, such as preparing requisitions and managing federal supply operations.
  • Enroll and retain new students, preparing them for career or college and ensuring high school graduation.
  • Visit feeder schools at least once a year.
  • Teach HSROTC Cadets, achieving curricular requirements and learning standards.
  • Continuously improve instruction by staying abreast of new instructional and motivational techniques.
  • Counsel and mentor students on academic performance and as members of the Corps of Cadets.
  • Assist students in applying for scholarships and service academy applications.
  • Accomplish all required school tasks, including participating in staff meetings, school committees, and student activities.
  • Perform duties required of other teachers in the school.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct hands-on training such as color guard, drill teams, and social activities like an Annual Military Ball.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce Military and School safety guidelines for all activities.
  • Develop professional qualifications by participating in instructor conferences and professional development opportunities.
  • Meet continuing education requirements set by the state, school district, and military service.
  • Prepare the unit for official visits, accreditation, and mandated assist visits.
  • Set an outstanding personal example of professional, social, and personal behavior and appearance.
