About The Position

Provides instructional support to secondary students in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Program. This role involves assisting with instructing cadets in the JROTC curriculum, creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth, and evaluating student progress. The instructor will also counsel cadets on their performance, motivate students to develop skills for responsible citizenship, and monitor student movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment. Additionally, the role includes assisting in organizing and supervising extracurricular activities for cadets, maintaining accurate student records, and attending professional development activities. The instructor is expected to set a positive example for cadets in attitude, knowledge, and skills.

Requirements

  • Senior Enlisted Professional for NSI position
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior Drill experience strongly preferred
  • Strong computer and administrative skills
  • Working knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction, learning theory and teaching methodologies for JROTC students
  • Working knowledge of current practices in alternative education
  • Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals for students
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and deliver individualized resources and services in a JROTC format
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively listen and communicate program goals to others, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other instructional personnel
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted and 50 lbs. assisted
  • Requires some climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions
  • Uphold traditional military standards of decorum and personal appearance
  • Required to wear the prescribed uniform while instructing and at other appropriate times

Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintaining accurate student records as required with Federal and local policies
  • Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities
  • Sets an example and models a positive attitude, knowledge and skills for cadets
  • Perform related work as required
