About The Position

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer pool in Japanese to teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics and/or film (beginners to advanced learners). This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Requirements

  • Hold at least a master’s degree in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese to teach lower-division (100- and 200-level) courses.
  • Be at least a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 300-level courses.
  • Hold a Ph.D. in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 400-level courses.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Possess the legal right to work in the United States of America.
  • Reside in the State of California at the time of hiring.
  • Provide a complete online application.

  • Provide a Curriculum Vitae.
  • Provide a Copy of your unofficial transcripts conferring your highest terminal degree.
  • Provide a list of three (3) references with contact information.

  • Provide a sample of course syllabi.
  • Provide Teaching Evaluations (if available).
  • Provide three letters of recommendation (once selected as a finalist).
  • Provide Official transcripts from the institution’s Registrar’s office emailed to [email protected] (before official hire).
  • Comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment (mandated reporter).
  • Complete a satisfactory background check.
  • Sign a release form authorizing the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct (if reaching final stages).

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics and/or film (beginners to advanced learners).
  • Teach in at least two of the following subject areas: Japanese Language, Introductory to Advanced Japanese Culture, Intermediate to Advanced Japanese Literature, Intermediate to Advanced Japanese Linguistics, Intermediate to Advanced.
