About The Position

The Janitor role at The GIANT Company (Giant Food Stores) focuses on maintaining store cleanliness, sanitation, and safety to create an inviting shopping environment for customers and a functional workplace for team members. The position typically operates on a part-time basis with a minimum of four-hour shifts, depending on business needs.

Duties include floor care, waste removal, restroom and break-area sanitation, cleaning surfaces and glass, responding promptly to spills, and maintaining store sidewalks and entryways. At the start of each shift, the Janitor reviews schedules, inspects cleaning supplies, and puts on required personal protective equipment (PPE).

The role requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment or waste bags weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees stand for roughly 55% of the shift and walk for 45%, with regular bending, kneeling, and reaching. The maximum static pulling force is up to 20 pounds.

Requirements

• Ability to learn and safely operate specialized commercial cleaning machinery and tools.
• Strict adherence to company safety policies, performance standards, and OSHA regulations.
• Wear the approved store uniform and slip-resistant safety shoes.
• Consistent attendance and strong time-management skills to complete independent cleaning routes.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull equipment or waste bags weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stand for approximately 55% of the shift and walk for approximately 45%; regularly bend, kneel, and reach.
• Execute a maximum static pull force of up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Vacuum carpeted office and conference spaces.
• Mop tile floors in restrooms, break rooms, and high-traffic areas.
• Collect and remove trash throughout the store.
• Safely operate heavy equipment such as trash compactors and cardboard bailers.
• Deep clean and restock restrooms and team break areas.
• Clean, dust, and wash surfaces, glass windows, and mirrors.
• Immediately clean accidental spills on the sales floor to help prevent slip-and-fall incidents.
• Use power washers and specialized tools to clean store sidewalks and entryways.
• Review schedules at the start of each shift, inspect cleaning supplies, and wear required personal protective equipment.
