About The Position

84 Lumber Company is seeking college students for a summer internship designed to apply classroom instruction to real-world experiences, with continued learning through on-the-job instruction. The successful candidate will carry out assigned tasks, listen and observe, and ask meaningful questions to develop an understanding of IT business operations and 84 Lumber. The intern will participate in relevant discussions about the IT environment, departmental projects, and interactions with vendors and business partners. The internship includes practical training in technology areas such as voice/data networking, firewalls, servers, security, storage, and monitoring.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to work toward and meet established objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
• Must be pursuing a relevant field of study, such as computer science or information technology.
• Must be available to work at a minimum from May through August (Monday through Friday) of the internship year.
• Must be able to pass a drug test and consent to a criminal records background check.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Consistent access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Set up and install computer equipment, including computers, monitors, and network equipment.
• Assist with managing technology inventory.
• Assist 84 Lumber associates with technology-related requests and issues, including general troubleshooting via Service Now.
• Assist with technical documentation.
• Assist with project management and general IT administration tasks.
• Participate in on-the-job training in voice/data networking, firewalls, servers, security, storage, and monitoring.
• Execute assigned tasks, listen and observe, and ask meaningful questions to learn about IT operations and the company.
• Participate in relevant discussions about the IT environment, department projects, and vendor and business partner interactions.
