About The Position

Science North is seeking a motivated and tech-curious IT Assistant to join their IT Team for a full-time, summer opportunity from May through August. This role provides hands-on experience supporting day-to-day IT operations in a dynamic organization. Working under the guidance of experienced IT professionals, the assistant will provide technical support to staff, maintain IT equipment, and contribute to ongoing IT projects supporting programs, summer camps, and operations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a post-secondary program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Basic knowledge of computers, operating systems, and common software applications.
  • Comfortable using Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level technical support to staff for common issues such as password resets, email and application support, printing, and basic connectivity problems.
  • Respond to and help triage IT support requests.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of staff, including basic account setup and device preparation.
  • Setup and deploy laptops, desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of hardware and peripherals.
  • Prepare shared and loaner devices used for summer camps, programs, and events.
  • Assist with the decommissioning of outdated hardware.
  • Assist with installation and updating of standard software applications.
  • Provide basic support for Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint).
  • Help create or update simple user guides and documentation.
  • Support ongoing IT projects such as system upgrades, data cleanup, and seasonal program preparation.
  • Assist with meeting room and audiovisual setup, including video conferencing equipment.
