About The Position
William Charles Construction is seeking a Construction Safety Intern for Summer 2026. Based out of the Rockford, Illinois office, this office-and-field position supports projects across Northern and Central Illinois. The intern assists the Safety Director, Project Manager, and safety team with day-to-day safety functions at construction project sites, including site safety, training, safety documentation, and helping ensure protocols are followed. Travel to project sites is part of the role; extended hours and weekend work may be required.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate four-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Safety and Health, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- At least 24 college credits completed.
- Basic understanding of the construction industry and accepted business practices.
- Comfortable with exposure to dirt, heat, and noise.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to complete tasks with speed and accuracy.
- Deadline-oriented.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- Adaptable and willing to learn.
Responsibilities
- Assist the safety team with daily safety functions.
- Assist with PODs and “Tool Box Talks.”
- Assist with overseeing site safety.
- Assist with safety training for new employees.
- Help ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Travel to project sites.
- Assist with documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
