About The Position

The Intermodal Intern participates in an 11-week summer internship program at Werner Enterprises, applying classroom learning in a real-world setting. The paid internship includes dedicated job training and learning opportunities and is based at Werner’s Chicago office in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Interns work in a collaborative, inclusive environment and gain practical experience in intermodal operations. The role involves communicating with intermodal carriers, tracking and tracing dray shipments, coordinating with Werner departments to resolve issues, and assisting with fleet and equipment needs. Training includes Werner’s EDGE TMS, Blume, Tableau, railroad websites, and Skybitz. The program also includes lessons with leaders, a mentor program, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or another related field.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Problem-solving skills.
Team-oriented approach.
Time-management proficiency.

Responsibilities

Communicate daily with the Intermodal carrier base and solve problems.
Track and trace Intermodal dray shipments.
Collaborate with various Werner departments to resolve issues.
Assist with Werner fleet and equipment needs.
Participate in system training for Werner’s EDGE TMS, Blume, Tableau, railroad websites, and Skybitz.
Take part in internship development activities, including lessons with leaders, mentoring, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation.
