About The Position

Turner Industries Group is seeking Insulators for work in the Decatur, Alabama area. The position covers boilers, pipes, tanks, and refrigeration units with insulating materials such as fiberglass, cork, plastic, and magnesia to reduce heat loss or absorption, prevent moisture condensation, and deaden sound. Insulators perform installation and finishing work on piping, equipment, fittings, and ventilation systems using hand and power tools.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
One to four years of experience in the specified skill, depending on mechanic level.
Basic knowledge of insulator hand tools, tape measures, cutting tools, and power tools.
NCCER certification may be required at some job sites.
Complete a post-offer drug and alcohol screen and physical evaluation, and sign acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Responsibilities

Wrap steam and hot-water piping with prefabricated fiberglass covering, apply mastic or cement, and cover piping with cloth for a smooth finish.
Fit thermo-block and magnesia-block insulation around boilers, evaporators, and turbines.
Wire insulation onto machinery and staple wire netting over insulation; apply cement to the netting to protect the insulating material.
Install cork insulation on saltwater, refrigeration, and air-conditioning piping and cement cloth over the insulation.
Cut insulation sheets into sections, fit and cement sections around fittings, and cover refrigeration or air-conditioning gas piping with molded plastic.
Fabricate detachable insulation for valves and similar fittings and wire detachable covers onto them.
Install fiberglass or spun glass on ventilation systems to deaden sound and prevent vibration.
Comply with company and client job-site safety requirements.
