About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Language, Literature and Culture II GERM 2P01. This is a face-to-face course delivery for the Winter D3 term. The compensation for this role is $7,887.59 per half course or $15,775.20 per full course, effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of German studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of German at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and German
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International German
  • Evidence of teaching competence
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Working closely with the Chair of Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Responsible for test and exam preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
