About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for FRENCH GRAMMAR REVIEW & PRACTICE FREN 1P93 for the Winter D3 term. This is a face-to-face course. The compensation for a half course is $7,887.59 and for a full course is $15,775.20, effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab. Duties include scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and working with the course coordinator or Director of French Studies.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation

  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Working closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
