About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for TRANSLATION I (FREN 3P06). This is a face-to-face course delivery for the Winter term. The position involves scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and collaboration with the BUFA course coordinator or Director of French Studies. The instructor is expected to incorporate web-based pedagogical techniques and materials, and be proficient in using common office software and multimedia equipment. Responsible time management, including punctuality and structuring the course, is also required, as is availability for student consultations and exam proctoring.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in French studies with a specialization in Translation and/or experience teaching a similar course at the university level is required.
  • A record of sustained successful teaching of upper-year University French courses is essential.
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French.
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French.
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in upper-year courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references.
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking.
  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures).
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams.
  • Cover letter, a current resume, course/performance evaluations, and at least two reference letters.
