About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for French I FREN 1F00, Section 1, a full course to be delivered face-to-face during the Winter term. The position involves scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and collaboration with the Director of French Studies. The instructor is expected to utilize web-based pedagogical techniques and materials, and be available for individual student consultations and exam proctoring.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
