About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) for VISA 3P04 Painting Concepts. The course involves conceptual development, synthesis and integration of media emphasizing contemporary approaches and practices. It includes lectures and studio work, with 4 hours per week. The department is the Department of Visual Arts – Studio Art, and the delivery method is face-to-face. The schedule is for the Fall Term, Duration 2 (D2), Section 1, on Thursdays from 1800 to 2200.

Requirements

  • MFA is required.
  • Previous teaching experience of at least two years at the university level is required.
  • Demonstrated background in teaching the practical and theoretical aspects of painting, including color theory and the history and techniques of acrylics and oils is required.
  • Familiarity with all technical aspects of canvas stretching, basic hand tools, studio safety and woodshop protocols involving the operation of a table and compound saw is required.
  • Record of professional activity and exhibitions with a focus on painting demonstrative of standing in the arts community is required.
  • Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual development, synthesis and integration of media emphasizing contemporary approaches and practices.
  • Lectures and studio work.
  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course for instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent.
