About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) for the course 20th-CENTURY FRENCH LITERATURE: 1935 TO 1970 (FREN 4P55). The course is a 2 LEC 1 R with a scheduled time of 1900-2200. The mode of delivery for this course will be face to face during the term. The compensation for this position, effective September 1, 2026, is $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally) or $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally). Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture, or equivalent, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd or MA) in modern French literature and/or culture (19th to 21st centuries)
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of upper-level French at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Competence in the use of email, SAKAI/Brightspace, WebCT, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Working closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Responsibility for careful test, mid-term and final exam preparation
  • Development of online activities
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including e-workbook, etc) in the teaching of the course
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
