About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for the course LITERATURE & CULTURE: FRENCH-SPEAKING WORLD (FREN 2F03). This is a full course position with a lecture and a seminar component. The mode of delivery for this course will be face-to-face. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of French Studies for this single-section course. The compensation for the full course is $15,775.20 effective September 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students

  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Work closely with the Director of French Studies
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision

  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
