About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group for the course INTRO TO THE LINGUISTIC STUDY OF FRENCH FREN 2P10. The course consists of 2 lectures with one section, running on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The mode of delivery for this course will be face to face during the term. The compensation for this position, effective September 1, 2026, is $7,887.59 per half course (nominally 195 hours) or $15,775.20 per full course (nominally 390 hours). Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies.
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of linguistics in French at a University level.
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and French.
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French.
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level.
  • Official student and peer evaluations.
  • Teaching dossier.
  • References.
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching.
  • Active participation in curriculum development.
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation.
  • Student assessment.
  • Prompt and accurate marking.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
  • Cover letter.
  • Current resume.
  • Course/performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration.
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Working closely with the BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses.
  • Incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials, and resources in the teaching of the course.
  • Responsible time management, including course structuring and punctuality for lectures.
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (1.5 hours per section per week required).
  • Proctoring exams.
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking, including online activities, mid-term and final exams.
