About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) DART 2P22 D3 (Winter) Applied Theatre Theory and practice of Applied Theatre techniques to assist communities in articulating issues, enhancing understanding of their complexity, and planning future actions. This is a half course with a lab component, requiring 4 hours per week. The lab is scheduled for Tuesdays from 18:00 to 22:00. Compensation is set at $7,887.59 per half course (nominally 195 hours) effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture equivalent are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • PhD in applied theatre with a focus on theatre for community development or a relevant, related discipline.
  • Significant professional and/or scholarly contributions to theatre for community development or a relevant, related discipline.
  • Successful, relevant, theoretically-informed post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness will ideally consist of a complete teaching dossier. Previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent objective, systematically collected evidence will also be considered.
  • Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
