About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and execution of mechanical auxiliary systems for hydro generator refurbishment projects. This role includes contract review, design calculations, technical specifications, drawings, and bill of materials, while providing technical support to project, supply chain, quality, and site teams. The mechanical engineer will be responsible for the design of mechanical auxiliary systems associated with the refurbishment of hydroelectric alternators. The employee will be responsible for designing, technically supporting the supply chain, collaborating with the project team, assisting with site activities, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (University) in mechanical engineering
  • Member of Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • Design skills (piping and instrument diagrams / piping layout drawings) in water cooled systems, air pressure systems, hydraulic systems and hydraulic power units (HPU), lubricating oil systems for bearings, fire fighting systems in hydro power, thermal or other similar power plant auxiliaries and mechanical balance of plant
  • 3 years minimum of relevant experience (after graduation) in mechanical auxiliaries (piping, pumps, etc.)
  • Ability to travel to Canada and United States (few short duration travels per year for inspections and site visits)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and French
  • Allow for preliminary hiring verifications, including references verifications without being limited to it
  • Unrestricted Canadian work authorization

Responsibilities

  • Perform contract analysis, attend site visits and raise clarifications to the client
  • Do design calculations, technical specifications, prepare drawings (with support of draftsmen) and bill of material for different systems such as: High-pressure oil injection systems, Fire fighting systems, Cooling systems, Braking and jacking systems, Oil mist systems, Brake and carbon dust exhaust system etc
  • Collaborate and prepare design reviews with cross function engineers and final clients
  • Prepare design instructions for installed based projects using technical guidelines, design guidelines and feedback of experience
  • Supervise the work of mechanical draftsmen to deliver piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), manufacturing drawings and piping layout drawings
  • Collaborate with supply chain to review the quotes from suppliers during the request for quotation stage and during execution
  • Review and approve the drawings and documents from suppliers
  • Support quality team for factory acceptance tests and test plan reviews / approvals
  • Apply rules and concepts for reliability, quality, safety and cost
  • Collaborate with project engineering managers
  • Collaborate with experts to share feedback of experience, validate design and provide support on root cause analysis
  • Provide site support for commissioning and erection team
  • Answer supplier deviation requests
  • Evaluate and answer non-conformities reports
