About The Position

This is a mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) position supporting the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and 3-5 years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields. A significant portion of this experience must include design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses. Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards for shipboard auxiliary systems is essential, as is proficiency with common productivity software and strong communication skills. The position involves a mix of office-based computer work and periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments, which may include confined spaces and ladders. Background check, US Citizenship, security clearance, and a CAC are mandatory. Travel is expected to be 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
  • Prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies.
