About The Position

Support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. This mid-level role involves providing technical support and documentation for the design, development, and evaluation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment. The position requires a strong understanding of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, and cargo/weight handling systems, with familiarity with relevant shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Background check, US Citizenship, security clearance, and a CAC are requirements for this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems.
  • Lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies.
