About The Position

The Marine-Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for reviewing contract specifications, determining and documenting requirements for shipboard machinery, propulsion, and auxiliary systems. This role involves writing and reviewing technical specifications, performing vendor quotation evaluations, and developing material take-offs. The engineer will plan and define mechanical engineering deliverables, perform calculations using engineering principles, and conduct piping system design, stress analysis, and material engineering. They will also prepare and review technical manuals and documentation, participate in design reviews, and interact with project stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires supporting the production workforce, performing quality assurance reviews, resolving comments from Class, Regulatory bodies, and customers, and assisting with concept designs and technical proposals.

Requirements

Must be self-motivated, strong analytical and problem solving skills, possess excellent communication (i.e., verbal and written) skills and possess a solution-oriented mindset.
Must have a comprehensive understanding of pipe sizing based on fluid mechanics, pump matching, pipe component selection, pipe support/routing design, and HVAC system design.
Familiarity with the design and engineering of marine vessel piping systems and/or comprehensive knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3.
Ability to trouble-shoot and coordinate interfacing of marine piping systems.
Competency in using industry-standard shipboard machinery piping system design and analysis software tools (PIPE-FLO, CAESAR II).
Experience in mechanical and piping system design using AutoCad.
In-depth knowledge of federal regulations (USCG), international rules (SOLAS, ANSI, ASTM) and classification society rules (ABS).
Technical writing skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools is required.
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field required.
Minimum 1 - 5 years of Marine Mechanical Engineering experience is required.
US Citizenship Required

Nice To Haves

Professional Licensure in Mechanical, Marine or an applicable discipline is highly desired.
Shipyard experience with new vessel construction is preferred.
Experience with Petrochemical, LNG, Refinery processing desired.
Experience with electrical automation systems based on PLC technology desired.

Responsibilities

Review contract specification, determine and document requirements for shipboard machinery, propulsion and auxiliary systems in conjunction with and performance criteria.
Write and review purchase technical specifications and perform vendor quotation evaluations.
Develop material take-offs including specialty item lists.
Plan and define the mechanical engineering deliverables (equipment lists, P&IDs) required for each project based on the construction specifications, vessel build strategy and other contractual requirements.
Perform calculations applying mechanical engineering principles, techniques, procedures and criteria.
Perform piping system design, piping stress analysis, piping material engineering and metallurgy (material selection, MSDs, corrosion studies, weld procedures), valve lists and pressure vessel design.
Plan and define the Marine Engineering Drawings/Tasks required for each Job based on the regulatory classification of the job.
Prepare, revise, and/or review technical manuals, engineering operating procedures, instructions, specifications, drawings, standards and documentation for cognizante equipment and systems.
Participate in design reviews and provide oversight of subcontract and internal engineering activities involved in the design and engineering of all piping engineering deliverables.
Interact with project engineers, project management, and all project stakeholders in support of project requirements.
Support the production workforce concerning mechanical engineering related activities.
Perform quality assurance reviews of analyses, calculations and drawings.
Resolve all Class, Regulatory and customer comments related to mechanical engineering deliverables.
Assist with the development of Concept Designs and technical proposals.
