About The Position

This position works specifically in the Server Management Branch and works with information technology (IT) such as web services, database connectivity, email systems, storage systems and backup/restore functions. The role involves setting up and maintaining servers, storage systems, backup systems, and providing support for email systems. The IT Specialist will offer technical guidance to staff on Windows Servers with Active Directory and address issues across statewide circuits. The work encompasses analysis, specification, design, build, implementation, and support of IT systems, with a statewide impact. This requires collaboration with general Judiciary staff, Judiciary ITSD staff, Circuit IT staff, Executive Branch IT staff, vendors, and Judiciary clients. A significant portion of the time is dedicated to the addition, upgrade, troubleshooting, and support of IT infrastructure, including virtual and stand-alone servers, centralized storage systems, centralized and distributed backup systems, peripherals, associated software, and system administrator accounts. While the core duties involve analysis, design, planning, documentation, and implementation, assistance in other areas may be expected as part of project needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree, or Excess experience of the types and quality described below or any administrative, professional, analytical, technical, or other responsible work which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Three and one-half (3-½) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in information technology which involved systems analysis, design, programming, security and access management, database design and management, consulting, and/or installing and maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, web or network infrastructure equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information technology principles, methods, techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer, server, mini and/or mainframe operating systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with enterprise hardware systems (e.g. IBM Power Systems, Lenovo Systems and Cisco Systems) and the associated operating systems such as AIX, Linux, WIndows Server
  • Experience with virtualization software like VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Ability to keep abreast and up-to-date with new IT trends, processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with backup/restore systems.
  • Knowledge of email systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft's M365 Suite (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint).
  • People/person skills such as conflict resolution and interpersonal relationship building capabilities.
  • Supervisory aptitude rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted at the V level.
