Information Technology Intern - Paid
About The Position
The Information Technology Intern works under the guidance of District IT staff and supports technology systems for a public water and wastewater agency. The internship provides experience in a professional office environment, collaborating with multiple departments and supporting a variety of IT projects. The position is on-site and part-time, approximately 20 hours per week for 20 weeks, during the Spring 2027 semester (approximately January through May). The preferred schedule is 8 a.m. to noon, with flexibility around classes. The intern reports to the Chief Technology Officer, who oversees assignments, and receives direction and training from IT department staff based on assigned work. Training is provided; certifications and professional IT experience are not required.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in classes related to information systems/technology, computer science, or a related field at an accredited college or university.
- Must have basic Windows/PC familiarity.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Must conduct oneself professionally and in a manner that positively represents Vallecitos Water District.
Nice To Haves
- Enrollment at a local San Marcos-based college or university is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Image and configure PCs.
- Install software.
- Deploy equipment.
- Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues.
- Provide basic Tier 1 help desk support and update tickets.
- Maintain equipment inventory.
- Work alongside District staff on a variety of projects.
