Industrial Design Engineer

Cricut•South Jordan, UT
•Onsite

About The Position

The Industrial Design Engineer bridges Cricut’s Design and Engineering teams, translating industrial design intent into manufacturable products and resolving engineering challenges from early concepts through mass production. The role contributes to a design-led organization and supports thoughtful, innovative product solutions from concept through launch. The engineer develops and maintains high-quality CAD models, including Class-A surfacing, and owns plastic enclosure development, detailed drawings, and design-for-manufacturing decisions. The role works closely with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, internal teams, and suppliers to balance design intent, mechanical constraints, component packaging, cost, performance, and user experience. It also contributes to a consistent visual language across product families and supports prototyping and production tooling with supplier teams in Asia. Some international travel to Asia is expected. This is an in-office role at least 4–5 days per week. The position is eligible for relocation assistance and is contingent on successfully completing a criminal background check upon hire.

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Creo skills are essential.
  • An excellent portfolio showing thoughtful products taken through manufacturing and mass production.
  • Portfolio examples of surface models, CAD, and part detailing.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and limitations.
  • Hands-on experience with plastics and metals for mass production.
  • Strong visual and verbal presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative product development environment.
  • Ability to preserve design intent and consider user experience, including designing for users unlike oneself.

Nice To Haves

  • SolidWorks skills or knowledge are ideal.
  • Comfort and proficiency using AI to support idea exploration, data analysis, and creative problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain high-quality CAD models of industrial design intent with Class-A surfacing in parametric software.
  • Own the development of plastic enclosure parts from early concept through mass production, including part break-up strategy, assembly methodology, and B-side features such as ribs, bosses, and internal snaps.
  • Create detailed 2D drawings using GD&T to communicate critical features, tolerances, and assembly requirements to manufacturing partners.
  • Lead design for manufacturing of enclosure parts, evaluating and implementing decisions about parting lines, draft, mold flow, gate location, ejector pin placement, and other injection-molding considerations.
  • Translate design concepts into manufacturable CAD models while preserving design intent and addressing technical constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance component packaging, cost targets, performance requirements, and user experience.
  • Integrate internal components and mechanical constraints into the ID-driven form language, serving as an interface between Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering.
  • Work with supplier teams in Asia to support high-fidelity, fast iteration during prototyping and production tooling.
  • Contribute to a consistent visual design language across a family of products.
  • Consider user needs, technical limitations, mechanical engineering requirements, and business goals in design decisions.
  • Facilitate creative collaboration across internal teams and external partners.
  • Ideate, pitch, review, present, and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Travel internationally to Asia to visit suppliers and Contract Manufacturers as needed.
