Commercial & Industrial Solar Design Engineer

Solar Energy Solutions•Ashland, VA

About The Position

The Commercial & Industrial Solar Engineer supports the design, engineering, and development of commercial and industrial solar energy projects. The role works closely with project management, sales, construction, and operations teams to develop technically sound, cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements, applicable codes, and project specifications. Responsibilities span solar system design and engineering, project development and coordination, compliance and quality assurance, and technical support. The engineer develops or reviews photovoltaic system designs, evaluates sites and electrical infrastructure, prepares or reviews drawings and engineering documentation, supports system sizing and performance calculations, and helps select equipment. The role also contributes to feasibility assessments, proposals, budgets, permitting, utility coordination, installation support, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project closeout. The position may involve office-based engineering work, collaboration with field teams, and occasional visits to project sites, warehouses, or customer facilities. Site visits may require appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with company safety procedures. Performance is evaluated on the accuracy and timeliness of engineering deliverables, regulatory compliance, coordination, responsiveness, and contribution to project quality and execution.
