About The Position

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking an In-School Resource Teacher to support Encanto Elementary School. This role is open to current San Diego Unified Permanent and Probationary Teachers. The district is looking for dedicated professionals committed to student success and community service. The In-School Resource Teacher will be instrumental in supporting the school's TK-5th grade literacy plan, which includes coaching, co-teaching, modeling, co-planning, and providing small group interventions. This is a grant-funded vacancy for the 2026-27 school year, with the possibility of excessing at the conclusion of grant funds. The position requires a commitment to data-driven approaches, evidence-based literacy instruction, and building the capacity of school teams to support novice readers, including those with signs of dyslexia. The role also involves establishing family literacy initiatives, providing parent workshops, and developing partnerships to enhance literacy for all family members.

Requirements

  • 7 years of K-5 teaching experience.
  • Experience with assessment and data literacy.
  • Experience with summative and formative assessment practices.
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development.
  • Experience with peer coaching.
  • Experience with Structured Literacy.
  • Experience with Adult Learning Theory.
  • Experience with the MTSS framework and guidelines.
  • Experience with the Universal Design for Learning frameworks and guidelines.
  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential by the closing date of the application deadline.
  • Current San Diego Unified Permanent and Probationary Teachers are eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Support the site’s TK-5th grade school literacy plan.
  • Coach, co-teach, model, co-plan, and provide small group interventions.
  • Facilitate staff and/or parent workshops (evenings and Saturdays may be included).
  • Use data-driven approaches to identify and support students in need.
  • Offer direct, push-in supplemental small group reading support and tier 2 intervention.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to ensure seamless continuity of instruction.
  • Increase access to evidence-based literacy instruction.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Engage in lesson modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching with general education teachers.
  • Build the capacity of school teams to identify and support all novice readers, including those displaying signs of dyslexia.
  • Implement differentiated reading strategies and culturally responsive teaching practices to support all students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and gifted students.
  • Use data collecting and calibration.
  • Establish an evidence-based family literacy initiative with a comprehensive plan that outlines literacy and biliteracy goals for all family members.
  • Provide parent workshops during and after school hours.
  • Take an initiative to develop programs after school, weekend and/or summer focused on literacy and biliteracy.
  • Develop partnerships with public libraries and other organizations to provide digital tools and support for whole family literacy.
