About The Position

HeyTutor is hiring tutors to support middle and high school students in grades 6–12 at a school district in Chula Vista. Tutors supervise and teach groups of students during and after regular school hours, helping them address learning gaps. Tutors work without support from a teacher or school-site staff and use program-provided curriculum and materials. The role requires comfort working in a classroom setting and completing an in-person background check. The schedule calls for availability Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for 25 hours per week. Pay is $25–$28 per hour, depending on education and experience, as determined at interview.

Requirements

• Completed an associate degree or higher, or currently enrolled in college or university.
• Tutoring experience and ability to work well with children.
• Comfortable working in a classroom setting.
• Pass a clear FBI-DOJ background check, provided through HeyTutor; must be comfortable completing an in-person background check.
• COVID-19 vaccination.
• Comfortable teaching middle school math, including Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus.

Responsibilities

• Work with groups of students without support from a teacher or school-site staff.
• Prepare the area for tutoring sessions.
• When needed, pick up and drop off students at designated areas on the school site.
• Take attendance and run lessons through the HeyTutor Dashboard, if applicable.
• Document student progress using the HeyTutor Dashboard.
• When requested by a manager, facilitate students taking and completing baseline and summative assessments.
• Lead group tutoring sessions using curriculum and materials provided by the program.
• Create an engaging environment where students feel a sense of belonging.
• Support students in making positive behavior choices.
• Engage and interact with students during tutoring lessons.
• Clock in and out of shifts daily using Deputy.
• Perform other duties required by the Company, manager, or school site.
