[2026-2027] Full-Time In House Substitute Teacher
About The Position
Yu Ming Charter School seeks an innovative and experienced In House Substitute Teacher to support its Mandarin-immersion, learner-centered public charter school community. The role delivers instruction across academic areas using provided lesson plans, helps maintain a safe and inclusive environment, supervises students, and reinforces school-wide expectations and routines. The teacher also provides administrative and operational support, assists with classroom materials and school events, and helps cover arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, transitions, and other areas of need. The position works within a 180-day school year and includes eight student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. Common building hours are 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Monday and 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Compensation is $37 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits for full-time employees and their dependents.
Requirements
- B.A. or B.S.
- Appropriate California substitute teaching permit.
- Superb interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change.
- Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitude.
Nice To Haves
- Experience as a substitute teacher or classroom teacher is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction in all academic areas based on provided lesson plans.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Supervise students in classrooms, the cafeteria, on the playground, and during transitions.
- Uphold and reinforce school-wide expectations and routines to support student safety and engagement.
- Provide general administrative support to school staff, including the Office Manager, such as making copies, organizing materials, and running errands on campus.
- Assist with managing student materials, supplies, and classroom organization.
- Support preparation for school events and activities.
- Assist with arrival and dismissal, lunch and recess coverage, transitions, and other duties as needed to support school operations.
- Model Yu Ming’s core values in interactions with students, staff, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
