About The Position
Hy-Vee is seeking a customer-focused Hy-Chi Department Clerk to help deliver a welcoming food-service experience. The clerk fills customer orders, prepares and replenishes products, maintains the department, and provides friendly service. The role suits someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, takes pride in quality, and likes working with people. Training is provided. The position requires following Hy-Vee’s mission, dress code, hygiene standards, and department and company guidelines. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Up to six months of similar or related experience.
- Commitment to Hy-Vee’s mission and a genuine passion for helping customers.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Clear communication with customers and coworkers and the ability to contribute positively to a team.
- Ability to learn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department procedures.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food-service, or delivery areas.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers, take orders at the Hy-Chi counter, and assist customers with their needs throughout the store.
- Review daily orders and ensure adequate food supplies by developing or following a production list.
- Prepare, finish, and replenish products, and retrieve products from the cooler or freezer for cooking.
- Monitor food freshness, appearance, and quality throughout the shift.
- Receive and put away products, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register, accept payment, and make change as applicable.
- Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe.
- Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
- Order products and supplies and price products as needed.
- Answer customer calls promptly and helpfully, including taking orders by phone.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and department and company guidelines.
- Assist with other tasks and special projects as needed.
