About The Position

Hy-Vee is seeking a customer-focused Hy-Chi Department Clerk to support the Hy-Chi food service department. The role involves filling customer orders, preparing and replenishing products, maintaining the department, and providing friendly service. The clerk may take orders at the counter or by phone, retrieve products from the cooler or freezer, and keep the workspace clean and organized. Training is provided.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Up to six months of similar or related experience.
Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail.
Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Clear communication with customers and coworkers and the ability to contribute positively to a team.
Ability to learn and apply sanitation, food safety, and department procedures.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Responsibilities

Greet customers, take orders at the Hy-Chi counter, and assist customers with their needs throughout the store.
Review daily orders and ensure an adequate food supply by developing or following a production list.
Prepare, finish, and replenish products; retrieve products from the cooler or freezer for cooking.
Review food status and appearance for freshness and maintain quality standards throughout the shift.
Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, accept payments, and make change as applicable.
Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe.
Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
Order products and supplies and price products for customers as needed.
Answer phone calls promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and department and company guidelines.
Assist with other tasks or special projects as needed.
