About The Position

Hy-Chi Department Clerks provide customer service and support the day-to-day operation of Hy-Vee’s Hy-Chi department. They take customer orders, prepare and replenish products, ensure food is fresh and meets quality standards, and help keep the department clean, organized, and safe. The role is suited to someone who enjoys a fast-paced food service environment, takes pride in quality, and likes working with customers and a team. Training is provided.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Up to six months of similar or related experience.
Commitment to Hy-Vee’s mission and a genuine passion for helping customers.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail.
Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Clear communication with customers and coworkers and a positive contribution to the team.
Ability to learn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department procedures.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to work around heat- and burn-related hazards from cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

Greet customers, take orders at the Hy-Chi counter, and assist customers with their needs throughout the store.
Review daily orders and develop or follow a production list to ensure adequate food supplies are available.
Prepare, finish, and replenish products, including pulling products from the cooler or freezer for cooking.
Check food freshness and appearance and maintain quality standards throughout the shift.
Receive and put away products and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payment, and make change as applicable.
Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe.
Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
Order products and supplies and price products for customers as needed.
Answer the phone promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and department and company guidelines.
Assist with other tasks and special projects as needed.
